Should I use Paginated Reports / Power BI Report Builder?

Main Post:

Hi, so I have requirement to build a report that will display a table in the following format:

Customer Name Address Entity Product Custome 1 123 Address Entity A Description Product A Entity B Description Product B Product C Customer 2 456 Address Entity B Product A Entity C Product B Entity D

Customer Name and Address - will be in Table A

Entity and Product - will be individual rows in Table B

There is a 1 to many relationship between these tables.

I don't think there is a way to create this format in a table or matrix visual in Power BI. Would my best bet be to create this in Power BI Report Builder?

If you need me to add any more information, please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Top Comment: I don't see what would prevent you from creating a matrix that displays that information. The only reason you would use report builder or paginated reports is it the user needs to export. Inside of power BI tables and matrixes will only export the data visible, so if the list scrolls down quite a while you won't export the entire table. That's literally the only benefit to paginated reports. Outside of that it's awful

Power BI Report Design

Main Post:

Hi everyone! Created this new report design for Arbiphex. It is fully built in Power BI, so only native visuals and didn’t use a tool like PowerPoint or Figma. Even the shapes in the top-right corner are just triangles with transparency and some rounded borders. Don’t underestimate what you can achieve in PBI. What would you change? Really interested in what you guys think.

Top Comment: Don't listen to the haters. A donut chart is a fine viz when you have <= 5 categories and data labels turned on. The blue does seem a bit out of place, though. Great use of white space. Great Metric hierarchy. The triangles look great. Nice job!

Changing a report parameter in Power BI Service takes forever to load.

Main Post:

I created a report in Power BI Report Builder and published it in Power BI Service.

Inital loading with the standard parameter and a parameter change after load is fast in Report Builder

Inital loading with the standard parameter ist fast in Service

Parameter change takes forever to load in Service. It has been 5 minutes and its still loading.

Why could that be? It would be a tragedy if my days of hard work would be destroyed by this circumstance, as the parameter change is essential.

Free users can't access a Power BI report in a Premium workspace (P1) – Azure Analysis Services

Main Post:

Hello,

I have an issue with a Power BI report published in a dedicated Premium (P1) workspace.
I created a Power BI app that uses this report to share it with Free users.

Context:

  • The report is based on a semantic model published in Power BI Premium and connected to Azure Analysis Services via DirectQuery.
  • Last week, Free users were able to view the report without any issues.

Issue:

Today, when a Free user tries to navigate the report, they get the following error:
"Can't connect to the data model. Power BI can't connect to the data model in Azure Analysis Services."

Troubleshooting steps taken:

  • The Free user is correctly added to the app and has the necessary permissions.
  • The Premium P1 license is still active.
  • No intentional changes have been made to the semantic model or dataset permissions.
  • I tested with another Free user, and the issue persists.
  • The dataset works perfectly for Pro users.
  • I also tested with another data source, and it works fine.

Questions:

  • How can I allow Free users to access this report without requiring a Pro license?
  • Has anyone else encountered this issue recently?

Thanks in advance for your help!
